WELCOME TO AYRSHIRE ARCHIVES

Ayrshire Archives holds a wide range of records relating to Ayrshire's rich heritage from medieval charters to modern day digital documents. These records are a valuable resource for many different types of research from family history to local history and beyond.


Ayrshire is divided into three local authority areas:

East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire,  and South Ayrshire.The records for each area are available at the local archive centre.

This online guide is designed to help you find the records for your research and to  plan your visit to the appropriate centre.

It is vital that you contact us before planning a visit so that we can point you in the right direction.

We have now moved to our new home at the Watson Peat Building, SAC Auchincruive, Ayr KA6 5HW, telephone 01292 521819.

We are open every Tuesday at the Watson Peat, Ayr  from 9.30am-1pm and 2pm-4pm by appointment only. Please telephone 01292 521819 to make an appointment or email archives@south-ayrshire.gov.uk

 
Many East Ayrshire archives and Kirk Session Records are also now available at The Burns Monument Centre  in Kilmarnock and the Archivist is on duty there every Wednesday.
 
North Ayrshire archives are held at The Heritage Centre  Saltcoats.
